2. Alfa

One of the state's largest lobbying groups..vehemently opposed to an semblance of constitution, tax, education, or environmental reform.  If Alfa had half a clue, they would be endorsing farms like this one:

3.  The Alabama Family Farm Preservation Act

Don't fall for this one.  Land use planning protects the interests of everyone, INCLUDING farmers!

4.  Fear, Smoke, and Mirrors

It's all in the marketing.  Politicians will give bills pleasant sounding names and use fear tactics and catch phrases to sell or defeat legislation.  These arguments are often preposterous.  Examine the facts and think for yourself !

5.  Current-use Valuation

Another inane Alabama tax law that values land based on its "current use status".  Property taxes are calculated based on this current use value (see 1901 Alabama Constitution).  For example, a one-acre wooded lot in Mountain Brook that would sell for $500,000 would be valued the same as a one-acre wooded lot in Conecuh County that would sell for $250.

Ending current-use valuation and calculating property taxes based on actual land value would not only be fair, but it would generate much needed revenue for Alabama's underfunded schools.

6.  Lack of Heroes

More than anything, Alabama needs heroes.  Leaders with the courage to tackle the tough issues are in demand!
